Brent Futures Flat Price

In the news, the US has reportedly sent a new aircraft carrier to the Middle East, as Iran tensions continue. Elsewhere, Saudi Aramco is handling September crude allocations to Asian term customers on an ad hoc basis, amid ongoing disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea. Four Chinese buyers said they had yet to receive their September allocations, while other Asian buyers are discussing lifting volumes individually with Aramco. Even where full allocations have been issued, some buyers are treating them as conditional, with uncertainty over vessel availability and their ability to physically lift the crude, as per Reuters. In Russia, seaborne oil product exports fell 33% m/m in July to 3.93Mmt, down 55% y/y, as Ukrainian drone strikes have forced unplanned refinery maintenance and reduced fuel production. Baltic exports fell 16% m/m to 1.97Mmt, while Black Sea and Azov Sea shipments dropped 49% to 1.25Mmt. Arctic exports fell sharply by 85% to just 44kt, while Far East loadings declined 16% to 664kt. In India, Petronet LNG still has no confirmed September LNG supply plan from Qatar, as Doha continues to review its force majeure on a month-to-month basis. Qatar declared force majeure in March after Iran struck two of its 14 LNG trains, while disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have further complicated exports. Petronet is therefore turning to alternative suppliers, including Oman, the U.S., Nigeria and Angola, to cover the shortfall. In Russia, the Orsk refinery has shut down completely after a Ukrainian drone strike damaged key infrastructure, with repairs potentially taking up to six months due to sanctions-related equipment constraints, according to the regional governor. Finally, as of the time of writing, the front-month (Oct/Nov) and 6-month (Oct/Apr’27) Brent futures spreads are at$1.96/bbl and $8.66/bbl, respectively.
